Stafford travel loo startup smashes $100,000 target in three days

A West Midlands startup firm has raised $250,000 in pre-orders before its autumn product launch.

CompoCloset designs and manufactures compostable toilets for the touring market, operating from co-founder Richard Peter’s parents’ driveway.

The Stafford startup has already surpassed its initial $100,000 target on Indiegogo three days after its May 17th launch to put CompoCloset in the top 1% of crowdfunding campaigns.

Preferring the benefits for staying off grid and the environment, 36-year-old Richard installed a leading composting toilet in his camper. However, he couldn’t help but see room for improvement and decided to design his own.

He explained: “Composting toilets are greener than chemical, which use harsh chemicals inside bottles. These can permeate the plastics, making them difficult to recycle.

“The currently-available compostable toilets are a good idea but aren’t designed well. They are difficult to use and unpleasant to empty. The Cuddy improves on both of these within a compact package.

“It also doesn’t need water to operate. This means the solids don’t need emptying as often and allows you to camp in more remote areas with no mains access.

“I tested it on my recent 28-day trip around the north of England and Scotland. I didn’t need to empty the solids once.

“Long term, I want CompoCloset to be a force for good, aiding sanitation for the 2.3 billion people who currently live without it.”

CompoCloset’s first model, Cuddy, is available now for pre-order and will be shipping in autumn.
