Talking Up is an illustrated children’s book series aiming to inspire and encourage emotional development. Each short story provides themes to help children understand challenging issues and encourage emotional intelligence.

The series is published by Erly Stage Studios– a global start-up involved in education and publishing. Committed to nurturing a more compassionate society, Erly Stage Studios believes in harnessing the power of emotions which drive learning, decision making, creativity, relationships, and health. The Talking Up Series focus on the key topics of emotional growth as well as self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. The series comprises of three books – Temper Temper Tamarain on anger management, The Beaver and Platypus touching on acceptance and inclusion and Born With No Horn on living with disability.

“In the wake of the pandemic, emotional intelligence would be the single most important tool parents can equip their children with,” said Erly Stage Studios Founder and Talking Up series writer Farid Haque. Inspired to develop the series following his participation in the 2017 Yale Writers’ Workshop, Haque notes “Talking Up provides parents with a way to discuss some of the most challenging subjects ranging from emotional regulation to discrimination.”

According to an assessment of emotional intelligence by Psychology Today, “When you teach kids emotional intelligence, how to recognize their feelings, understand where they come from, and learn how to deal with those emotions, you teach them the most essential skills for their success in life. Research has shown that emotional intelligence or EQ predicts over 54% of the variation in success (relationships, effectiveness, health, quality of life).” Additional data concludes that young people with high EQ earn higher grades, stay in school, and make healthier choices.”
