Northants firm Biovate Hygienics achieves coveted Ecocert accreditation
Dynamic Biovate Hygienics is celebrating after being awarded the world renowned Ecocert certification for its natural cleaning products.
The company – which is based at Pury Hill, near Towcester, Northamptonshire – has a mission to drive sustainable change in the commercial cleaning and hospitality sectors.
The accolade is a major achievement for the company as it is also the first UK manufacturer of commercial cleaning products to achieve the certification, which is recognised as one of the best-known worldwide labels for organic products.
Biovate Hygienics had earmarked this year for the next step on its journey towards closer alignment with both certification and trade bodies, to ensure its products and business is independently validated by credible third parties.
Co-founders Nick Winstone, an experienced biological cleaning entrepreneur, and Tom Burkill, an accomplished serial entrepreneur, set up the company with a vision of sustainable innovation and positive disruption – and to change the way Britian cleans.
Ecocert has given its seal of approval to a wide range of Biovate’s products under its Ecodetergent certification, including surface cleaners, a fabric cleaner and a floor degreaser.
Mr Winstone said: “We are thrilled to be the first UK manufacturer of commercial cleaning products to achieve an Ecocert Ecodetergent certification. This is a major achievement of our journey to develop the most sustainable cleaning products on the planet. Our vision and mission is to drive sustainable change to reflect our identity as a business and the many steps we’ve undertaken to gain Ecocert accreditation are a demonstration of our commitment to that goal”.
“We aimed to bring some black and white to a market which at the moment has plenty of grey areas in a lot of its stakeholders minds and what is actually green is generally not fully understood or accredited. In a world where “green washing” is becoming a common phrase we aim to bring credence to our activity and what better way than with the hardest and most stringent of certifications, that took us over 18 months to achieve,” added Mr Burkill.
Ecocert advances sustainability through its Ecodetergent certification programme ensuring that products are both naturally derived and eco-friendly. Their emphasis lies in environmentally responsible practices and natural ingredients in their approved detergents, while prioritising product performance and safety.
Headquartered in the Toulouse region in the South of France, Ecocert has around 30 years of experience for audit and certification of organic products in more than 130 countries and is recognised as the world’s leading specialist in the certification of Natural & Organic sustainable practices.
Biovate Hygienics launched with a mission to change the way Britain cleans by:
Ensuring its core biological products use natural biological and plant-based liquids
Utilising ground breaking packaging that is reusable and renewable
Working towards carbon neutral products
Being proudly 100 percent made in the UK
Using technology to provide a cutting-edge user experience
Innovating at all times to drive both its products and the broader industry forward in a journey towards total sustainable cleaning
On the back of winning a string of cleaning industry awards last year as a business, Nick Winstone has also been shortlisted as ‘Leader of the Year’ for this year’s European Cleaning and Hygiene Awards, while Biovate Hygienics is a finalist in the ‘Sustainability – Best Practice (Manufacturing)’ category of the prestigious annual awards.
A key contribution to Biovate Hygienics’s award-winning run was its successful launch last year of its ‘Zero Compromise’ range which represented a ‘world first’ for the commercial cleaning sector by being a nature powered product packaged in plastic-free paper bottles.
Biovate Hygienics focuses on providing a serviced range of sustainable cleaning products to the housekeeping, hospitality, and general cleaning sectors.
