Sight loss charity Guide Dogs has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to aid its vital work empowering people living with sight loss.

Guide Dogs train and home life-changing dogs that thousands of people in the UK rely upon for their independence. Guide Dogs is a national charity which offers a range of services for adults and children living with sight loss, with their Midlands and East team covering Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Mandy Loveder, Community Fundraising Relationship Manager for Guide Dogs covering Peterborough, said: “We were extremely pleased to hear that we were chosen to receive a donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes. It costs around £55,000 to support a guide dog from birth to retirement and, as a charity, we rely almost entirely on donations such as this one to keep our life-changing services running.

“Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation will be used to name one of our guide dog puppies through our Name a Puppy fundraising scheme. This donation means so much to so many and will help us support more people living with sight loss in the UK.

“The developer’s Community Fund scheme is a fantastic initiative which greatly benefits charities like ours. We would like to offer our most sincere thank you to everyone at Barratt and David Wilson Homes for choosing to support us.”

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading homebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Guide Dogs a donation to support the fantastic work it does.

“We’d encourage everyone to look into the vital work Guide Dogs do to empower those living with a visual impairment.”
