LEVIAT CONTINUES ON ITS JOURNEY TOWARDS IMPROVED SUSTAINABILITY

However, it recognises it is uniquely placed to integrate materials, products and solutions that continue to play a role in shaping a more sustainable built environment.
Leviat is a company within CRH plc which is an international group leading the way in building materials solutions, employing 75,800 people at 3,160 locations in 29 countries. As a global powerhouse, CRH has determined its own sustainability goals for creating a better-built environment. These also form part of Leviat’s own sustainability ambitions. CRH has embedded sustainability across its business to change the culture of the industry and make real changes.
CRH recognises that with its global scope and influence, it has a responsibility to lead the industry in protecting the environment and therefore has raised its industry leading decarbonisation ambition even further. CRH has set an ambitious 30% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030 covering all activities across the group. The group wide target is supported by a series of targets which have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in line with the new framework to limit global warming to 1.5oC.
CRH’s newly raised commitment involves reducing gross scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions by 33.5% per tonne of cementitious product by 2030 from a 2021 base year; reduce absolute gross scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from other activities by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year and CRH further commits to reduce gross scope 3 GHG emissions by 23.5% from purchased clinker and cement per tonne over the same timeframe. It plans to do this by accelerating the rollout of proven technologies, as well as embracing multiple breakthrough technologies.
CRH has already made impressive steps in its sustainability journey. A sum of £207 million has been invested in environmental initiatives by CRH, and 3.1 million tonnes of by-products have been diverted from waste streams.

As a sign of its sustainability achievements, it is responsible for helping deliver some of the most energy-efficient structures in the world, which have been reflected in green building rating schemes such as BREEAM, LEED and PassivHaus.
Leviat is hitting its own impressive milestones in its journey towards sustainability. So far, it has avoided one million tonnes of emissions through replacing 50% of its fossil fuels with low carbon alternatives and implemented ways to reduce fuel consumption in its delivery transportation. Excitingly, in the UK, Leviat has also hired its first-ever Environmental and Sustainability engineer to further explore the avenues in which it can lower its environmental impact.
To showcase its impressive efforts in changing the way we approach sustainability in the built sector, Leviat is attending Futurebuild on 7th-9th March 2023 at ExCel in London.
