Mrs Green’s top-five tips to ditch plastic this July

Eco-passionate entrepreneurs and lifelong friends Vicky Wilson and Karen Payne give their ideas on reducing our impact on the planet one piece of plastic at a time.

Vicky, 46, and Karen, 56, from Chesterfield have an online shop called Mrs Green’s Eco Store which is dedicated to offering stylish and plastic-free home solutions.

Mrs Green’s top-five tips for eliminating single-use plastic:

“Ditch tea bags and choose to use a loose tea infuser or teapot (many people are unaware some tea bags contain micro-plastics)
Take a reusable drinks cup out with you to your local coffee shop
Stop using cling film and use hygienic reusable food lids or wax wraps
Always choose an email receipt over a paper copy
When shopping, opt for products with little packaging or with recycled or recyclable packaging. You can take your own bags and buy loose fruit and vegetables and bread, etc.”

Wanting a better world for their children and future grandchildren, Mrs Green’s founders risked it all by quitting their jobs to get fully behind the project.

They said: “We’d been watching the surge in demand for sustainable products for six or seven years and finally saw an opportunity to launch our brand.

“The emphasis has always been about making small changes together.”
