A Norfolk MP has welcomed the ruling on The Bell Hotel and said the government should not have scrapped the Rwanda policy.
Speaking on GB News James Wild MP said:
“This is a welcome ruling. It’s Conservative local authority council who’s acted on behalf of their local community, who have got legitimate concerns about the impact of this hotel being used not as a hotel, but as a place for illegal immigrants.
“We saw a previous ruling in Great Yarmouth – again, a Conservative authority that took action there. So there is real questions about the government’s policy.
“But they’ve only got themselves to blame. They came into office saying, we’re going to close all these illegal immigrant hotels. In fact, the number of illegal immigrants in them has gone up, and that’s because on day one, they scrapped the deterrent, so we’ve seen 50,000 people come in the last year alone and 25,000 people already this year.
“These are record numbers. And communities are worried, and that’s perfectly legitimate. So the government’s going to have to respond to this and work out what they’re going to do about this situation that they have largely created.”
