CHARITY IS HELPING NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COMMUNITY IN NEED FOLLOWING HOMEBUILDER’S DONATION

Since receiving a £1,000 donation from Nottinghamshire housebuilder Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, Juno Women’s Aid ensured it was well-equipped to provide help to women in the county experiencing domestic violence.

The charity received the contribution from the leading housebuilder’s Community Fund scheme to support its efforts in helping women, children and teens who are experiencing violence in the home.

The donation from the housebuilder went towards multiple projects, including the ‘bed project’, which saw the beds replaced in the charity’s refuges – and to the charity’s emergency fund which supports women with No Recourse to Public Funds, accommodation and other emergencies such as transport needs.

Val Williams, Special Projects Manager at Juno Women’s Aid, said: “The £1,000 donation from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has helped us enormously with our efforts to support women, teens and children who are going through a difficult time.

“In 2020-2021, we worked with 2,147 women, 375 children and young people, fostered 39 pets and received over 17,000 calls on our helpline.

“At any one time, we’re supporting 500-600 women and children in Nottingham and South Nottinghamshire so donations such as this one are much needed in order for us to continue giving support to the local community.”

The charity has goals set out for the next five years which include having a vast established network of supporters to help us raise awareness and move our community standards of acceptance to reach tolerance zero towards domestic abuse.

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said: “We were delighted to hear how Juno Women’s Aid has made use of our donation and since supported its local people during a testing time for many.

“Helping others make a difference in the areas in which we build is exactly why our Community Fund scheme was introduced and the efforts of everyone involved with the charity over the past year have been admirable.”
